West Midlands Trains

Provision of security systems planned preventative maintenance across the entire network of 70 stations.

Background

West Midlands Railway is a train operating company (TOC) that run train lines between London and the Midlands.

Since 2012 Optyma Security Systems have been looking after the contract for the provision of security systems planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the entire network of 70 stations.

Additionally, Optyma are the preferred contractor for design, supply and installation on all up-and-coming NSIP and other station improvement works. As these new stations come online the systems installed throughout the network are then added to the rolling yearly PPM programme.

Manpower capabilities and resources

Optyma operates a 24 hour / 7-days-a-week manned service desk to deliver this service which enables the security and station management to contact Optyma and request reactive maintenance support quickly and easily.

To ensure the continuity of safety and security systems on stations Optyma Security Systems only use in-house rail qualified engineering staff to do the maintenance works required. on stations.

All of the reactive and the planned preventative maintenance visits are fully logged via our in-house security management software (SIMS) where a job reference is allocated per call. This information is then downloaded onto the engineer’s handheld PDA so that reporting is live.

Optyma have a dedicated engineering team allocated to London Midlands operational area and these teams are fully supported by dedicated project managers and administration staff in the office.

Planned and reactive maintenance

On all site visits conducted by Optyma’s engineering teams reports are supplied to the designated site representative in order to begin work and obtain any necessary permits to work.

This gives the site manager full visibility of the maintenance work including:

  • Signed & dated method statements

  • Risk Assessment

  • Indicative programme setting out the tasks to be completed under the PPM and duties to be undertaken if a reactive maintenance visit is required.

This reporting provides the site/station manager with full visibility of what works are planned and when and what has been delivered during the maintenance visit.
